Introduction To The 420
The new Gull Calypso is a true all rounder and can be used for day cruising, club racing or training. She is also
easy to row and use an outboard motor with. The original lan Proctor classic design of 1956 has been brought right
up to date with the new Calypso, launched in 2006.
The simple flexible rig, comprising main and jib with roller reefing and traditional spinnaker, add to the boat's
all-round appeal. What's more, slab reefing means she's superb for single handed cruising.
There are many enhancements over the original boat. There's a larger cockpit and aft stowage locker for picnics,
sails and outboard.
The Gull has been tested and assessed by the Royal Yachting Association and Recreational Craft Inspector.
It has been given Design Category "C" with a crew limit of between 1 and 4, in accordance with ISO 122 17-3.
This category is considered to render it suitable for use in waves up to 2.0m significant height and a
typical steady wind of Beaufort Force 6. She also has optional masthead buoyancy.
