Llanbedr & Pensarn Yacht Club

Description

Llanbedr & Pensarn Yacht (LPYC) is situated on a sea estuary, or lagoon, called Mochras, where the river Artro enters the Irish Sea in north Cardigan Bay. The lagoon is tidal and dries to a sandy bottom. Access is limited to 2 hours either side of High Water. HW is Liverpool -3hr 8min. There is a visitors mooring for craft up to 5tons.

North Cardigan Bay (Tremadoc Bay) is a near perfect sailing area, chosen as the Olympic sailing venue if Manchester had been successful in its bid for the Olympics. Pwllheli is 10 miles across the water and nominated as a Sailing Academy by the RYA. Snowdonia provides the backdrop to the sea, some of the best scenery and walking country in the world.

The LPYC is a small club with around 120 members and with few formalities. All types of boating are catered for, dinghy and cruiser racing on handicap, fishing, cruising and just messing about in boats. The estuary is a natural area with a good deal of wildlife and only limited access by public road. It has been designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI). Children are most welcome, the Artro Estuary being as safe a place as any water can be, and the club provides a safety boat on race and activity
