Co Down Sailing Clubs

Address: Seacliff Road, Bangor, Co Down

Description:

Ballyholme Yacht Club and North Down Sailing Academy offer a variety of boats and sailing equipment for hire. For the beginner there are Toppers and Picos – small dinghies that can be sailed singlehanded or perhaps parent plus child. These boats are unsinkable – we think. The sails can easily be reefed (made smaller) for the nervous first-timer. For the more advanced there are two Laser Vagos – boats that can be docile and comfortable or sailed on the edge with their assymetric spinnakers and trapese wires. We also have a fleet of Laser 2 Regattas for team racing, tuition and family sailing.

Description:

Located at the foot of the Mourne Mountains, this ”family friendly” sailing club operates from April to October with dinghy racing events every Thursday evening and Sunday afternoon. The club also provides a training facility to enable sailors to obtain RYA qualifications in sailing and powerboat handling.Tuesday evenings are set aside for additional training where members can turn up to practice techniques on the water in an informal environment. Outside the club, members also partake in regional, national and world events and for whose interest is not primarily dinghy racing, a number of members with cruisers make summer trips to various locations around the UK, in particular, the Scottish Isles.
