Dorset Sailing Clubs
Castle Cove Sailing Club is a thriving, long established, family club, based in Portland Harbour. From small beginnings in a clifftop chalet it has grown steadily and in September 2002 we moved to our present site at the end of Old Castle Road, Weymouth. There is an extensive programme of racing, class and handicap, for dinghies and keelboats. The preferred dinghy classes being Scorpion, Laser, Wayfarer, Contender, 29er, Buzz, B14, Topper, Mirror and Optimist The yachts range from 22 feet to 40 feet in length and race using the Portsmouth Yardstick scheme and IRC. The cruising fleet organise trips every weekend during the summer months, including trips abroad.
The club has substantial premises in a prime location on Weymouth’s beautiful harbour, moorings for about 120 boats, a dinghy park and a slipway. It is primarily a racing club and runs a full race programme from April to December, but there are also many members whose main interest is cruising. The Club also has an active social programme.
Classes catered for are IRC, Fast and Slow Cruisers, National Squib keelboats and a Dinghy handicap fleet emphasising Merlin Rockets, Wayfarers, Larks and the club’s own Weymouth Bay Falcons.
