Kitsilano Yacht Club was founded in 1934 and over the years the Club has developed into an exciting venue for one-design sailing. Kits Yacht Club is home to active one-design fleets including the Star, 505, Lightning, Martin 242, and Pirate classes. It also has a number of kayaks and paddlers. Throughout the summer sailing season, the Club hosts a regular Thursday night race for members and their guests. This friendly competition is a great introduction to racing for new sailors, or an excellent way to keep your boat and crew in race-ready condition. Generally, our Lightnings, Stars and 5o5s are the most active fleets in this series, but all boats are welcome.

The Viking Sailing Club is a volunteer-run cooperative that offers sailing lessons in Vancouver at Jericho Sailing Centre. For members new to sailing we offer thorough sailing lessons on the best-maintained fleet of vessels at Jericho. We provide sailing lessons, training, racing, and casual sailing activities from our clubhouse at scenic Jericho beach in Vancouver.

The Viking Sailing Club prides it's self on offering an impressive array of well-maintained sailboats to our members to sail at Jericho beach. Our core boat in the fleet is the Tasar. The single-handed Laser is another of our favorite boats in the fleet. The Laser was designed by Canadian Bruce Kirby and is one of the most successful single-handed sailboats in the world.

All members new to cat sailing receive their initial training on our Hobie 16. Once you are competent sailing the Hobie 16 you can advance to the more powerful Nacra 570. The Nacra F18 is the flagship of our cat fleet and requires sailing skills to match this demanding boat. We are the only club at Jericho that owns a cruise boat. Our flagship Bavaria 34, Freya, is moored in False Creek close to Granville Island. Freya provides sleeping accommodation for up to six. As a member of the club, you have booking privileges for this vessel.

West Vancouver Yacht Club is well known for its great hospitality, convenient location, fine food and beverage, leadership in learn to sail activities, safe moorage and excellent facilities. The Yacht Club has just over 600 active members and owns a number of outstations along the BC coast. Whether it be a weekend destination or a stop-over as part of a longer cruise, the West Vancouver Yacht Club outstations are conveniently located for either desire.

Of the Club's three facilities, the signature outstation at Elliott Bay is the most developed and only a 1.5 hour sail from the Club's home base. Cruising the Gulf Islands? Kendrick Island, four hours away, at the mouth of Gabriola Pass, is a logical first stop. If Desolation Sound beckons, the Club's joint marina operation in Duncan Cove in Pender Harbour is a day''s cruise away. So whatever the direction or length of cruise, a safe convenient port is available to the members of the West Vancouver Yacht Club. We also have a racing programme and adult and youth learn to sail programmes.

Description

Gimli Yacht Club owes its beginnings to a unique set of circumstances. In 1967 Winnipeg was chosen as the site for the Pan Am Games and the most suitable location for the yachting competition was Gimli. Even before the Games were held, negotiations were initiated by the Manitoba Sailing Association regarding the acquisition of the site. However, the property was turned over to the Town following the Games.

After two more years of negotiations between MSA and the Town, Gimli Yacht Club became a reality in July, 1969, when its first organizational meeting was held. Unlike most yacht clubs, GYC started out well equipped with a building (donated to the Pan Am Games by Camp Shilo), land (leased from the Town) and a wharf and finger docks (build by the Pan Am Games Society), but only a handful of members. Until the airforce base at the airport closed in 1971, the CFB Sailing Club was an important member of this group in its first few years, providing some of the basic necessities, such as furniture, boats and rescue craft.

Description

The Lake of the Woods International Sailing Association invites you to sail on one of the most astounding sailing adventure vacations available. The lake itself straddles the international border and extends about 100 kilometers (60 miles) in each direction leading to numerous areas of the lake that hold excellent sailing opportunities. There are sailing classes for all types of boats and levels of ability.

There are divisions for competitive racers on state of the art boats. There is also provision for those who sail on less competitive designs who desire only an initiation to racing. LOWISA even allows sailors to opt for a division with pursuit style starts in order to avoid the stress of Olympic style starts. For those who don''t wish to race at all, there is a cruising fleet to allow for sailors who want only the beauty of the lake and camaraderie of other sailors. This provides an avenue for family cruisers to participate in a non threatening atmosphere.

The West Hawk Lake Yacht Club, established in 1959, was one of the original clubs in Manitoba. During the 1960s and into the mid 1970s, the club was extremely active and produced a number of top level competitors. Older racers will remember names like Dr. Max Demarais, Bill Benson Sr and Cam McCulloch. West Hawk Lake was a hot bed for Y-flyers, Fireballs and Albacores.

It had an active Learn-to-Sail program and a member of WHLYC served as Chair of the CYA National LTS Committee in the mid 80s. Although the club is virtual it has a website but no club house plans for 2010 are to continue on the success of the last four summers. The sailing program has been expanded to include an advanced program and an adult program. All the old club trophies have been located and there is serious talk of holding races to compete for them (tentatively Aug.15/10). The main focus, however, will continue to be on trying to get people out on the water sailing
