Description

Regular club racing is organised on most Sundays throughout the year, offering a mixture of Handicap, Pursuit and Class Racing. Class racing is provided for Mirror, Solo, Topper, Laser, Optimist and Handicap Classes. Several race series are run throughout the year offering an easy qualification route for the end of year prize giving.

Roughly one Sunday per month from March to October a round of the Club Championship is held from which the overall club champion is crowned

Founded over 40 years ago, we are a small and friendly club offering sailing opportunities, for dinghies and cruisers, on the tidal waters of the fascinating River Severn. Located within the historic Lydney Docks, the club offers a clubhouse, boat storage and its own slip for access to the Severn. Floating and drying moorings are available.

Throughout the season the club has a varied programme of races, away weekends, novelty events and a down channel cruise week. During the winter months there are talks and social gatherings.

The Club was founded in 1969. Initiated by Staff & Parents of boys of Whitefriars School, Cheltenham, we still have a few Founder Members amongst our Membership. We are known as a friendly & family club, embracing at the same time the elements of competition by regular racing for those who wish to race, cruising for those who wish to sail at leisure, fun sailing events, and a well balanced programme of Social events for all ages. As owners of the Clubhouse, lake and surrounding area, we take pride in keeping it tidy and making good use of the facilities it offers.

The Club is set on the NE end of Bala Lake giving access to one of the most picturesque sailing waters in Wales. The mainly Southerly winds provide excellent sailing conditions and the well equipped clubhouse and training room make Bala SC one of the most popular sailing venues in the country.

A number of classes are sailed at the club including Albacore, Blaze, Cruisers, Fireball, Flying Fifteen, General Handicap, GP14, Juniors, Laser, Merlin Rocket, Sailboard and Solo.

Visitors are most welcome to Dovey Yacht Club. Membership application forms are available at the Clubhouse and if you are visiting Aberdovey for a short period you can take out a temporary membership.

We have plenty to offer both dinghy sailors and cruisers. We have a super junior fleet sailing mostly topper dinghies. Racing dinghy fleets include Lasers, GP14's, Solos, Fun Lasers and Toppers. The Aberdyfi Rowing Club are affiliated to us.

On shore we are proud of our club facilities. We have changing rooms with hot showers, a food galley and upstairs is the main lounge, balcony and bar with a magnificent view of the Dovey Estuary.

Llanbedr & Pensarn Yacht (LPYC) is situated on a sea estuary, or lagoon, called Mochras, where the river Artro enters the Irish Sea in north Cardigan Bay. The lagoon is tidal and dries to a sandy bottom. Access is limited to 2 hours either side of High Water. HW is Liverpool -3hr 8min. There is a visitors mooring for craft up to 5tons.

North Cardigan Bay (Tremadoc Bay) is a near perfect sailing area, chosen as the Olympic sailing venue if Manchester had been successful in its bid for the Olympics. Pwllheli is 10 miles across the water and nominated as a Sailing Academy by the RYA. Snowdonia provides the backdrop to the sea, some of the best scenery and walking country in the world.

The LPYC is a small club with around 120 members and with few formalities. All types of boating are catered for, dinghy and cruiser racing on handicap, fishing, cruising and just messing about in boats. The estuary is a natural area with a good deal of wildlife and only limited access by public road. It has been designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI). Children are most welcome, the Artro Estuary being as safe a place as any water can be, and the club provides a safety boat on race and activity

Llandudno Sailing Club is keen to encourage anyone interested in learning to sail to come along to the club and find out what's involved.

The club have 3 Laser Pico's and 2 Optimist dinghys especially for use by beginners. Royal Yachting Association (RYA) qualified instructors run the sessions. No sailing is allowed unless the powered safety boat and crew are on the water.

Llandudno's race programme includes a number of single race trophies (eg First Out, Easter Tankard etc) and trophies that are competed for over a series of 3 to 10 races (eg Salisbury, Chamber of Trade etc). There are also trophies for special categories such as 'Leading Beginner', 'Most Capsizes in a Season, Club Champion etc.
