EESC enjoys a wonderful location on the north coast of the Firth of Forth. It has excellent facilities for dinghies and yachts, a modern well-equipped Clubhouse, sailing and social events and a Blue Flag beach.

Elie harbour dries to a sandy bottom and it is most suited to dinghies, bilge keel or centreboard yachts, up to about 30 feet long. However, the two visitor berths are ideal for a mid-season scrub for slightly larger yachts. Fresh water is provided at the visitor berths. Deep-water moorings are also available and larger craft should take the southerly mooring buoy.

We offer a full range of dinghy sailing, from to instruction for complete beginners to top-class racing . Most of all we offer a friendly welcome to sailors of all ages and stages. The club began in 1955 at Sugar Loaf Beach in Portishead to promote the sport of sailing on the Bristol Channel. More than 50 years on we have grown from humble beginnings to one of the leading coastal sailing clubs in the South West.

We are proud of our National Champions and World Championship competitors. However we are also able to offer sailing to everybody regardless of their ability. Some years ago we entered into partnership with Training Saints, a watersports tuition company, to become a RYA Accredited Training Centre. This means we are can offer formal sailing qualifications, from complete beginner upwards, together with instruction in windsurfing, powerboating and personal watercraft. We also have a Cadet section for young people.

Our membership is mainly dinghies with a few dayboats out on moorings. We welcome all abilities as long as they have an interest in sailing. In recent years the Solo fleet has expanded to something like 13 boats. The river is tidal and we sail about 2 hours each side of high water.

We always manage several cruises throughout the year and often sail upriver and take a picnic to places like Inchyra where there is a Civil Service Boat Club, to one of the old salmon stations or to Elcho Castle. It is also possible to sail quite far up the River Earn which joins the Tay just upriver from Newburgh. Cruises downriver to Dundee and beyond are also possible. Some of our more adventurous members have taken their small boats right round the coast via St Andrews to the East Neuk Fife harbours on the Firth Of Forth.

In recent years we have run successful 'Introduction to Sailing courses' which have helped increase our membership. We also run training courses for powerboat and rescue boat so that members can share the rescue boat duties.

Bristol Avon Sailing Club was founded in 1955 by a band of local sailors keen to make use of the River Avon on their doorstep for the then rapidly expanding sport of dinghy sailing. Several club-owned training boats are available for occasional loan to new club members to help them get into the swing of things. These boats - Toppers and Comets - enable beginners to get on the water prior to taking a decision on which of the many different types and classes of boat would suit them best to buy.

Founded in 1946 on the banks of a disused clay pit, Ely Sailing Club is and friendly and welcoming place to enjoy dinghy sailing. The water and islands cover an area of approximately 40 acres and are surrounded by banks and trees which although scenic, make for interesting winds on occasions. The club has an extensive racing program, much of which is run from the race office adjacent to the main clubhouse. Anyone interested in starting racing will receive plenty of advice and encouragement from existing members.

Although racing has been an active part of club life for many years, there is also an active group of sailors who prefer to cruise around the waters in a variety of boats. The cruising group are active mostly on Saturdays during the sailing season while the racing predominantly takes place on Sunday afternoons. During the Summer months there is organised club sailing on Thursday evenings. As a fully recognised RYA Training Centre we offer introductory and beginners courses run by our own club instructors. Please see our "Training" section for more details.

If you've seen the River Cam in Cambridge, you may find it hard to believe there's a sailing club on such a narrow river. It's a little wider where we sail and we have a good stretch of water that's clear of trees. The CSC has thrived on the Cam since 1899.

The club owns several dinghies, which belong to these classes:

* Optimist (suitable for small children)
* Topper (for larger children or small adults)
* Mirror (for adults and/or children)
* Enterprise (mainly an adult boat)
* Laser (mainly an adult boat).

Members can sail these club boats free of charge, but most members have their own boats, which they keep at the club. Some are in the classes mentioned above, but they also include (or have recently included) these classes:

* Graduate
* Comet
* Scorpion
* British Moth
* Byte
* Merlin Rocket
* numerous other types.

We have over 30 sailing cruisers in the club, all owned by members. They range from traditional Broads style wooden boats (one with a topsail) to new fibreglass boats. Cruisers have access to the waters of the Great Ouse System.

A number of recognized classes are represented, notably the Jaguar 21 and Sailfish 18 classes. We have 12 Sailfish boats and we hold an annual open meeting for them, when we are joined by Sailfish owners from near and far. See photo of 13 Sailfish moored at Upware.
